    Per Diem 


    Examines teeth and diagnosis patients’ dental conditions, assesses treatment options, implements treatment plans and educates patients on oral health care.


    • Performs dental assessment on inmates being admitted and on those requesting appointments that have not been screened to determine the dental needs and their urgency. 
    • Charts and forms treatment plan(s).
    • Performs and interprets radiographic exams as indicated.
    • Provides dental treatment to include emergency treatment of the teeth and surrounding soft tissues such as: oral surgery, restorative dentistry and periodontal therapy, within the scope of a general dentist.
    • Makes proper referrals for procedures which can not be performed at the institution or are beyond the technical proficiency of his/her practice.
    • Ensures that dental records are current, accurate and legible.
    • Ensures that the daily logbook describing each patient visit is maintained according to established procedure.  
    • In cooperation with the Medical Director, provides professional consultation to all members of the Health Services team relative to inmates’ health care management.
    • In conjunction with the Medical Director, prescribes medications from the pharmacy formulary for patient health needs.
    • Adheres to Universal Precautions at all times.
    • Participates in the development of in-programs and maintains public relations with other health disciplines within the institution.
    • Provides services in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control infection guidelines, federal, state and local laws and the Quality Assurance Program standards.
    • Abide by the security regulations of the institution to which dental services are provided.
    • Responsible and accountable for dental office security to include instrument, medicine and needle counts and local laws.
    • Maintain membership in ACHSA.
    • Annually submit documentation of current licensure.
    • All other duties as assigned.


    • Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Dentistry or a graduate of an accredited university with a DDS or DMD degree. 
    • Must be currently licensed in the state of employment.
    • Must possess current DEA certification number. 
    • General practice residency and/or previous clinical dental experience preferred.
